The Mountain Apple, Known As ‘Local Apple’
The Mountain Apple, known as ‘local apple’ is a pink coloured fruit with white pulp and a seed. It is botanically known as Syzygium malaccense. In different parts of the world, names such as “rose apple”, “water apple” or “plum rose” are sometimes used for this fruit.
The fruit is pear-shaped with pink skin color, with some pinkish white and deep red varieties. Just like any other apple, the fruit has a crunchy taste with a bit of strongness like cashew. It is a richly nutritious fruit that provides the body with vitamin A, C, E, fiber, potassium, copper, fiber and iron.
Uses OF MOUNTAIN APPLE:
According to dobby’s signature, It can be used to prepare jam by stewing the flesh with brown sugar and ginger. It can be pickled and served with grilled fish or meat. The over ripened fruits can be made into a syrupy sweet wine.
When cooked with fresh ginger, lemon juice, cinnamon and then smoothly processed in a blender, they make a delicious mountain applesauce. It can be juiced, made into a smoothie or added to a fruit salad.
